The Austin Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier donated $1,000 to Green Corn Project as part of its annual Green Tables initiative to support garden-to-table organizations in Austin. Green Corn Project is a grass-roots, Austin-based non-profit organization that strives to improve access to affordable, healthy food in low-income communities by helping families and social service organizations grow their own food. One of the group’s goals for the coming year is to increase the number of low-income elementary schools it serves. With the $1,000 grant from Les Dames d’Escoffier, Green Corn will be able to achieve that goal. The grant will cover the costs of vegetable transplants, seeds, cedar boards, soil and compost for two new raised bed gardens at four schools.

The Austin Dames were thrilled to not only donate to Green Corn but also to help plant gardens at Casa Marianella, a recipient of Green Corn Projects efforts. We look forward to returning to help with the Spring dig-in!
